If a hamster is bitten by a cage mate and the wound is not serious, just disinfect it. First house the hamster alone, then clip the fur around the wound to lower the chance of pus.
Clean the wound with saline or a dedicated spray, then apply wound ointment. Also, hamsters should not be kept in the same cage β most cannot tolerate another animal in their territory.
Even if they get along briefly, they may fight in the middle of the night, causing torn ears or bitten legs, so separate housing is recommended.
