Five Causes of Dog Vomiting

1 Overview

Case 1: Puppy vomiting

Though often physiological, do not ignore it; weak puppies without shots easily catch infectious disease. Repeated vomiting in a pup needs a real hospital.

Case 2: Freshly eaten food thrown up

Common when the dog overeats and cannot digest, a physiological vomit. Do not panic; feed on a fixed schedule in fixed amounts, never over- or under-feed. Frequent vomit from eating fast or too much damages the stomach lining and causes chronic gastritis.

Case 3: Red vomit

Except after red foods like dragon fruit, red vomit is serious – see a vet at once.

Case 4: Yellow-green vomit

Yellow-green mucus without food usually means kidney or pancreas trouble – see a vet.

Case 5: White foamy vomit

White foam may be gastric juice from acute gastritis. Stop food and water, observe half a day, give glucose water to avoid dehydration, then a pet anti-vomit drug; if it continues, see a vet.

Any vomit means the body rejects something; stay calm, observe, and judge if a vet is needed. Avoid human food, feed mostly kibble on a schedule, and vomiting is preventable.
