First Aid for Common Dog Skin Diseases

1 Overview

[Fungal Infection] Usually from not drying the coat after baths, low resistance or wounds. Appears on the top of the head, around the mouth, limbs. The spot is oval or round, large, honeycomb-like. Use a antifungal spray over the whole body, 3-4 times daily.

[Mites] Caused by a damp, unclean environment or infection from a sick dog.

Appears on eyes, nose bridge, chest; the spot has no fixed shape, with small bumps or fluid discharge, and intense itch. Use doramectin; since the mite life cycle is 15-24 days, use once weekly for 8 weeks.

[Fleas and Lice] External fleas come mainly from an unclean environment. Parting the coat shows small black dots – flea droppings. Flea eggs are tiny white grains; put them in water to tell – if they turn red in water, the dog has fleas; use fipronil to remove them.
