Feline rhinotracheitis (cat flu)

Feline rhinotracheitis, fully called infectious feline rhinotracheitis, is an upper respiratory infectious disease caused by herpesvirus. Kittens of 2 to 3 months, those in poor environments, and unvaccinated cats are most susceptible. Signs include conjunctivitis, increased eye discharge, sneezing, and runny nose; severe cases drool, become lethargic, lose appetite, fever, or cough. It is highly contagious and cats carry the virus for life, relapsing when immunity drops. If infection is suspected, take the cat for a respiratory pathogen screening.
