Dog is listless, has diarrhea, and will not eat or drink

There are many causes of bloody diarrhea in dogs. First, swallowing a sharp foreign body can damage the gastrointestinal tract and cause bloody stool; take the dog for an X-ray and surgical removal. Second, parasite infection causes gut inflammation – usually with normal energy and appetite – so deworm promptly and give oral probiotics and anti-inflammatory.

Third, canine parvovirus or coronavirus causes diarrhea, tomato-like bloody stool, vomiting, dehydration, and worsening spirits; viral infections have no specific cure and high mortality, so take the dog to the vet promptly.
