Doe Rabbit Estrus Cycle
π Summary
A doe's cycle is not fixed β it runs about 6β15 days with each heat lasting 2β4 days, shaped by nutrition, light, and climate. Heat rates and shorter cycles peak in spring and early autumn with good light and mild temperatures; cold, low light, poor nutrition, illness, or stress can delay or stop heat. By age 4β5 the ovaries fade and cycling ends.

How Long Is the Cycle
A rabbit cycles only after sexual maturity. Mature ovarian follicles release estrogens into the blood, driving physical changes in the reproductive tract and stimulating the nervous system into sexual excitement β heat.
The gap between two heats is the cycle. Each heat lasts about 2β4 days, the time for the tract and behavior to change. The cycle is generally 6β15 days, but by age 4β5 the ovaries lose the ability to make mature follicles and cycling slowly stops.
Does can cycle and mate in any season, but with enough light and mild temperatures the heat rate is high and the cycle short β so spring and early autumn show the highest rates and shortest cycles. The autumn molt, winter, and summer show weaker heat, especially in large does.
Heat is shaped by environment, handling, and disease, which can advance, delay, or stop it. Good light and warmth shorten the cycle and lengthen heat; low light, cold, or heat can block heat for long. Poor nutrition, illness, or stress also stop it.
In short, many factors affect heat; an early or late heat is normal if the doe acts otherwise fine. But if she will not cycle long, find the cause and act.
