Do fish have noses?

Fish do have noses, even though they breathe with gills. A fish’s nose is usually at the front of the head with two small openings, but it cannot breathe through them; it only detects smell. Many fish use smell to return to their birthplace to spawn in the breeding season, completing the life cycle. Second, a fish’s smell also senses nearby animals, helping it find food and avoid predators. Fish have a very strong sense of smell, about 500 times more sensitive than humans, so although the nose does not breathe, it is very important to them.
