Causes: sunken eyes mostly come from a worsening environment, rarely from bacterial infection. Mild cases are cured by raising the temperature, frequent water changes, and aeration; severe cases need medication.

Treatment: 1) Raise the temperature to 30-32 C and hold it until recovery, though 24-28 C is the normal range. 2) Change water more often – 2-3 times, at most one-third of the old water each time, refilled with an equal amount of sunlight-exposed fresh water. 3) Add oxygen; low dissolved oxygen also causes sunken eyes. After these steps the eyes usually recover; if not, add an antibacterial drug like oxytetracycline, or use nitrifying bacteria – and stop feeding during medication.
