Can a hamster eat itself to bursting?

Hamsters generally will not eat themselves to bursting. They have cheek pouches where food is stored first rather than fully swallowed, and later they take it out to hide or eat slowly, which is their hoarding habit. Moreover, hamsters have a very strong digestive system and a sense of fullness, so they stop eating once satisfied, and therefore will not overeat. But avoid giving too much food at once, to prevent obesity, illness, or spoilage of hoarded food that could cause various diseases.
