Can a Dog’s Scratched Intestine Heal on Its Own?

Expert Answer

A scratched intestine rarely heals by itself. If you suspect this, take the dog to a pet hospital as soon as possible.

The dog usually passes blood in its stool and loses appetite. Stop feeding and get it checked promptly.

For mild bleeding the vet gives anti-inflammatory and hemostatic treatment; for heavy bleeding, surgery is needed.
