An arowana usually begins coloring at about 6 months, when it reaches around 25 cm. Coloring has four stages: gill-cover color, first scale-frame color, second scale-frame color, then spreading and deepening until it covers the whole body.
Water, environment and lighting drive coloring, so keep water good, preferably soft and weakly acidic.
