Cockatiels usually reach sexual maturity at about 8 months, but because of individual differences, each bird develops at its own pace. You can judge adulthood by the bird’s voice, feather color, and claw shape.

Young cockatiels have a simpler call, while mature ones are more varied and rhythmic, and their feathers become brighter. With age, the adult’s claws also darken in color.
