Canaries are ready to breed at 8-10 months, but it is best to wait until after 1 year. The peak breeding season is April-May; after mating the pair builds a nest, for which the owner should supply clean nesting grass or cotton. The female lays 2-4 days after nesting finishes. During laying, remove the male to avoid disturbing her or breaking eggs. Eggs hatch in 14-16 days; keep the area quiet and do not move the cage, or she may abandon it.
