A small patch of hair loss on the cat’s neck – what’s going on?

Hair loss on the back of a cat’s neck may be caused by bacterial, fungal, or parasitic infection. If no parasites are found on the skin and deworming is done regularly, bacterial or fungal infection is the main suspicion, but a skin scraping at the hospital is needed to tell which.

Bacterial infection is usually not contagious and improves after a period of antibacterial medication. Fungal infection, however, can spread and take a long time to heal; fungal infection is also called ringworm and can be treated with Pipute skin spray or terbinafine hydrochloride ointment, with extra vitamin B during treatment.
