The main causes of twitching with whole-body weakness in a rabbit include rabbit viral hemorrhagic disease, parasitic infection, poisoning, low blood sugar, and electrolyte imbalance. If it is the peracute form of RHD, brief excitement such as screaming, struggling, and paddling occurs and the prognosis is often poor, so vaccination is the best prevention.
It may also be hypoglycemic shock from not eating, causing limp limbs, inability to lift the head, and rapid breathing; emergency glucose by mouth plus warmth is advised, then urgent veterinary examination and treatment.
