Should Dog Training Start When Young?

Training isn’t oppression; wild dogs need no rules, but once home, make it a good citizen!

Don’t skip training when young — habits harden; even if hard, teach slowly.

Some miss the ‘golden period’; best learning ~3 months, but not an excuse to do nothing before.

First, build correct behavior values:

Key: if the dog doesn’t know right from wrong, it errs; teach clear rewards/punishments. Most dogs understand owners; catch them in the act — even minutes later, scolding confuses/frightens them.

Method 1

Put slipper and chew treat together; call the dog; if it chooses the treat, move the item away; if it chews the item, take both and say ‘no’ — so it learns touching the item loses the treat.

Method 2

Pretend not to watch; if it chews furniture, appear and scold — most effective if it didn’t see you.

Dog biting? Serious — today it bites you, tomorrow others, causing conflict. How to correct: from day one show strict leadership — you’re the boss.

Method 1

A small spray bottle with water; if it bites, spray its face — better than slapping; the face spray feels unpleasant.

Method 2

If you hit, hit firmly, not lightly — pain teaches. A swat to the biting ankle/hand works.

Method 3

Expose it to the world, play and socialize, not cooped up; at home spend ≥30 min playing.

All family must be strict about biting, not lenient. Hate those who ignore the dog then abandon it for bad habits — education and company are mandatory; like owner, like dog.
