1 Overview

1. Why deworm if never out

Pets are curious explorers by nature. Even homebound days, they rummage every corner.

If a bug sneaks in, the pet may eat eggs while exploring.

Once infected, health is threatened, nutrients robbed, immunity dropped, causing vomit, diarrhea, fever, itch, hair loss.

Common parasite homes: AC holes, drains, balcony, doors/windows, pots, mats, under carpets.

Though owners wrap up, parasites may ride shoe soles home. They won’t grow on you, but your pet is the target.

Daily disinfect != no parasites

Common pet disinfectants kill viruses; for mites they’re weak.

And parasites grow fast, infect widely; we can’t guarantee 100% clean.

E.g., an adult flea lays 40-50 eggs daily. Seeing 1 adult means about 10 eggs, 7 larvae, 2 pupae on it.

2. How to check for parasites

The editor suggests the five-look rule:

Look at coat: part fur, check base skin for red dots, swelling.

Look at dandruff: comb, see black specks fall.

Look at stool: worms/eggs visible if infected.

Look at belly: eats much but thin, belly growing like fluid inside.

Look at spirit: low, scratching more than usual.

Ps: not seeing doesn’t mean none; observe daily.

3. Regular strict deworming

Most dewormers only kill adults, not eggs; eggs regrow into adults, so do regular internal and external deworming.

External mainly drops, usually monthly. Some drops do both; for less-outgoing pets; outgoing need dedicated external.

On dry fur, part the back to base skin.

Apply evenly on skin, best neck/back along the spine where sebaceous glands spread it; blow gently until dry.

Internal mainly oral; different products vary; follow label.

When feeding, crush the pill into a little can/kibble to guide eating.

For strong refusal, consult a pro or vet for a pill gun.

Correct pill pose: load the gun, align; open mouth, aim throat, push fast – 0.5 sec done.

Some products do both; check label; edible amounts per label.

Notes:

1. Empty stomach prevents irritant vomiting.

2. Check label; some external need no bath 3 days before/after.

3. Some pets lose appetite, vomit after deworming; usually 1-2 days; if days, see a vet.

4. Pregnant pets: avoid deworming; do it before pregnancy.

Flea/tick parasites breed fast; during outbreaks keep the environment clean, especially corners; toys, beds, and the pet itself should sun often, stay clean.
