For mild cases, feed more hay; symptoms ease in 1–2 days.

If you see hairball stools several times a day, give papaya enzyme tablets and hairball paste. For severe cases, see a vet, who may prescribe an appetite stimulant to boost gut motility and pass the mass. Also feed barley or oats to lift appetite.

Preventing Rabbit Hairballs

Prevention takes just two steps:

First, brush often during shedding and clear fallen fur to stop hairballs at the source.

Second, feed more crude-fiber food to aid gut movement and self-expel hair.

Without these steps, rabbits easily get hairballs—most groom from a young age and swallow fur, especially during heavy sheds. So brush your rabbit often.

To check, inspect droppings daily. For mild signs, switch feed to grass and greens, or give papaya enzyme tablets.
