Hello, hair loss and redness are mainly caused by fungal, bacterial, or parasitic infection. Get a skin scraping at a vet to confirm the cause.

If a vet visit is hard, clip the fur, disinfect with iodine, and apply pet anti-inflammatory ointment at home.

Keep an Elizabethan collar on to prevent licking. If it does not improve, see a vet.

Hair loss with red rings that then fall out screams ringworm to me, and it's contagious to you too, so I'd isolate him and get a skin scrape or culture, don't just watch. Mine needed oral plus topical and a clean environment to actually kill it, and the Wood's lamp alone missed it. Start the vet visit before it spreads to the rest of the house, ringworm is stubborn but treatable.
