Dobermans do not have to be ear-cropped; cropping makes the ears stand and look sharper. It also improves ear ventilation and reduces ear-disease risk.

For a pet that is not shown or worked, cropping is not necessary.

Leaving the ears natural does not affect hearing or healthy growth, and spares the dog the pain of surgery.
