What ointment should I use for my dog’s ulcerated anus?

A dog’s ulcerated anus can be caused by many things, with anal gland inflammation being a common one. For mild anal gland inflammation, you can use an anti-inflammatory ointment such as erythromycin. Before applying, clean the anal gland and the sore with saline, then apply the ointment. If it’s more serious, also give oral antibiotics to prevent infection. During treatment, keep an E-collar on the dog to stop it licking the anus.
