Postpartum eclampsia, also called low blood calcium, is a serious metabolic disease in mother dogs after birth. Signs include whole-body muscle stiffness, trembling, rigidity, convulsions, and foaming at the mouth, treated mainly by supplementing calcium. Severe cases need intravenous 10 percent calcium gluconate, with sedatives if needed. To prevent it, feed the mother calcium-rich food or supplements after delivery.
