Pro Plan show-level is actually an all-life-stage food that puppies, pregnant or lactating dogs, and adults can all eat. Its main ingredients are frozen chicken, chicken meal, rice, wheat, chicken fat, wheat gluten, and corn gluten. Rice and wheat are grains, so it is generally not advised for dogs with grain allergies.
Wheat and corn gluten provide plant protein; while they raise crude protein, they do not suit a dog’s digestion well and have low absorption. Finally, the food adds good nutrients such as fish oil, glucosamine hydrochloride, and lysine hydrochloride that can boost immunity.
I fed Pro Plan show-level to my pup and it's solid, it's an all-life-stage formula so the ingredients cover growth, frozen chicken, rice, fish oil, glucosamine, the good stuff. But the wheat and corn gluten are plant protein and my vet noted they don't digest as well for dogs, and if yours has a grain allergy skip it. I liked the added fish oil and glucosamine for joints and immunity. Every puppy's different, mine did great, but if your dog itches or has soft stool on it, get him to a vet to rule out the grains.
