When Do Ornamental Turtles Hibernate?

Ornamental turtles generally begin hibernating in October each year; due to climate differences, the farther south, the later they hibernate. Hibernation is a turtle habit that greatly helps growth – it promotes sexual maturity and earlier breeding, and strengthens the body and disease resistance.

However, not all turtles hibernate; some species do not need to, such as the Chinese three-banded box turtle and the Chinese striped-neck turtle.
