Why do goldfish’s scales flare open in summer?

Goldfish scales flaring open may be from season change and large temperature differences, or it may be dropsy. Dropsy comes mainly from poor water quality and viral infection; if the flaring persists, dropsy is likely.

Once confirmed, change the water promptly, raise the temperature moderately, and add some salt to disinfect; these work well in early dropsy.
