What color should a dog’s stool normally be?

Expert Answer

Normally a dog’s stool is brown or tan. If it ate a lot of green vegetables, greenish stool is also normal. Beyond color, judge by shape: normal stool is log-like and firm.

If the color is abnormal, or the stool is loose, coated in mucus, or has blood streaks, take it seriously. If abnormal stool recurs, take the dog to a vet.
