What to do if my Golden Retriever has pyoderma

Dog pyoderma is usually bacterial and needs antibiotic drugs. Treatment includes cleaning local scales, removing pus, and applying topical plus oral antibiotics such as cephalosporins, ampicillin, or amoxicillin-clavulanate.

For recurring or deep pyoderma, do a skin scrape and sensitivity test before using drugs under a vet, to avoid the bacteria becoming resistant and lowering skin immunity. During treatment keep diet and environment clean, use a collar, regular medicated baths, and sunlight to aid recovery.
