I applied erythromycin eye ointment to my turtle; what should I watch for?

Swollen, shut turtle eyes are usually inflammation or white-eye disease. Bad water plus humid heat spoils water and inflames eyes; if white discharge and lethargy accompany swelling, it is white-eye disease, common in cold seasons with big temperature swings and weak resistance.

White-eye is highly contagious, so isolate and treat at once and disinfect the original pool; in winter keep a constant 25 to 28°C. For both: disinfect the eye with iodine, wipe discharge, apply chlortetracycline or erythromycin ointment three times daily, avoid scratching, mostly keep it dry with some sun, and keep water clean; in water add vitamins and amoxicillin, with water not above the back.
