Cutting the quick has no fixed timing; you can take the dog to a vet at about 3 months. Besides looks, it stops the dog scratching people or furniture, and helps paw and bone health by preventing ingrown nails.

But nails still need regular trimming after the procedure, with no set interval. Cutting the quick is optional; just trim nails regularly at home.
