There are many causes of a runny nose: common ones are colds, infectious diseases and rhinitis. An adult dog with recent cold exposure may just have a cold, usually keeping its appetite; offer tasty food, keep it warm, give water, and watch for cough, fever or changes in spirit and appetite.
An unvaccinated puppy with cough, sneezing, runny nose, fever, lethargy and poor appetite may have distemper or another infection, so see a vet promptly to avoid worsening.
