A mother dog is best spayed after lactation ends. After birth she is weak with lowered immunity and still nursing, so early spay is unsuitable and risks heavy bleeding and harm. Therefore spay only after she has fully recovered. Lactation is about 40 days, by which her body has mostly recovered and the surgery risk is much lower.
