Turtles usually begin hibernating in November and continue until early April. Generally, when the temperature drops below 10 C and food is scarce, they find a spot and stop eating to hibernate. Methods differ: some need mud or sand, some water, and the keeper must keep the environment moist. When temperatures rise above 15 C they gradually wake and regain appetite as it warms.
