At three months old, a dog’s vision is fairly mature, with no obvious difference from an adult dog. Generally, a dog’s vision develops rapidly within the first three months after birth, and by three months it can already recognize different colors and shapes, though vision varies by breed.

For example, a dog’s retina has two types of visual cells: rod cells and cone cells. Rod cells are mainly for black-and-white and low-light vision, while cone cells are mainly for color and bright-light vision. Some breeds have fewer cone cells, so their color vision is relatively weaker.
