How to Help a Cat with Elimination

For a kitten that cannot eliminate on its own, wipe its anus and urethra with a wet cloth 15-30 minutes after feeding, mimicking the mother’s licking; a brief stimulus usually triggers elimination.

For litter training, prepare a litter box and put some of its feces and urine in it.

When the kitten looks ready, take it to the box; smelling its own scent, it will usually use it.

Keep the box in a quiet, private place, not where people walk, or the cat may feel unsafe.
