How Long for a Mother Cat with Low Blood Calcium to Recover?

With active treatment, a mother cat’s low blood calcium generally recovers within a few days. Hypocalcemia commonly occurs in postpartum cats because they lose large amounts of calcium during delivery; without timely supplementation, it easily develops.

Common symptoms include restlessness, fear, unsteady walking, and stiff hindquarters, and in severe cases foaming at the mouth, ataxia, and sudden collapse. If symptoms appear, take the cat to a veterinary hospital immediately for intravenous calcium. Mild cases may recover on their own.
