A drowning dog usually shows breathing difficulty, confusion, pale mucous membranes, weak pulse, dropped temperature, and shock from oxygen lack. On finding it, lift it out, clear nostrils and mouth, and invert it to drain water.
If unconscious, give mouth-to-nose resuscitation every 3 to 5 seconds; if the heart stops, try chest compressions. After recovery, take it to a vet promptly.
