After a cage change, a hamster may become restless, run around, chew the bars, lose appetite, and be afraid to sleep. Timid hamsters may stay curled in the nest and ignore the owner; if let out, they may want to stay outside.
Because hamsters are timid and sensitive to changes in environment and scent, when changing cages keep some old toys, food bowl, water bottle, and part of the bedding so the hamster feels secure.
