A puppy’s tearing can come from ingrown lashes, irritants, blocked tear ducts, heat or eye infection. First check for foreign objects or irritating smells and flush with saline, then apply eye drops.

Trim hair that pokes the eye, and if there is redness, discharge or inability to open, see the vet for infection. A one-month-old should still drink its mother’s milk; if the mother or pup eats greasy heating food it causes tear stains, so watch the diet.
