There is no fixed time for when a hamster can be handled; once it knows and trusts you, it will naturally enjoy playing in your hands. Younger hamsters are easier to bond with and handle.

A newly bought hamster usually bonds within about 7 days. After bonding it will relax around you or beg for food. It may even get upset and bite the cage if ignored for long periods.
