A giant salamander grows large, so prepare a big tank; a small one limits its growth. If using tap water, let it sit 3 days first to remove chlorine that harms health.
It lives in 0-28 C water at pH 6.5-7.5, but avoid big swings in temperature or pH, changing only 1/4 to 1/3 of the water at a time. Feed young ones earthworms and bloodworms; after 15-20 cm, small fish and shrimp; adults eat various seafood and chopped pork or chicken.
