What happens if a dog is bitten by a venomous snake?

Dogs bitten by different venomous snakes show different symptoms. Common snake venoms are divided into neurotoxic, hemotoxic, and mixed neurotoxic-hemotoxic types. A dog bitten by a neurotoxic snake usually shows little reaction at the wound, but will develop drooling, vomiting, locked jaw, rapid breathing, limb weakness, and convulsions leading to rapid death.

A dog bitten by a hemotoxic snake typically develops local swelling and severe pain at the wound, which can easily lead to tissue ulceration and necrosis. It may also show vomiting, diarrhea, reduced or no urine output, blood in the urine, and rapid breathing.
