What happens if a cat eats avocado?

A cat that eats avocado may be poisoned, because the fruit, skin, pit and leaves contain persin, which cats lack the enzyme to break down. Eating avocado causes vomiting, diarrhea, breathing difficulty, fever and indigestion, and without prompt treatment it can suffocate and die. If your cat eats avocado and shows these signs, take it to a vet immediately.
