If tearing is from bacterial infection, first put on an Elizabethan collar, clean the eye area with saline-moistened cotton, then apply any antibacterial eye drop such as neomycin, three to five times daily. Keep the room clean and the cat away from dusty places under the bed.

If there is no improvement after 3-5 days, other eye disease or viral respiratory infection may be involved and a veterinary visit is needed.
