Does a pet snake need water?

Pet snakes do need water. Growing snakes require enough moisture, and long-term lack harms normal growth. Wild snakes take water from the environment—lapping dew from grass and leaves, or drinking from ditches, ponds and paddies.

A pet snake drinks by pressing its snout to a wet surface or dipping its head into water, pumping with its jaw and throat muscles to draw water in.
