How often do nursing kittens defecate?

Nursing kittens of different ages defecate with different frequency and intervals. Kittens under 20 days old cannot defecate on their own and need the mother cat to stimulate them, so they generally go every 1-2 days. After one month, a kitten’s intestinal motility strengthens and it can defecate independently; being at weaning age and eating milk cakes and puppy kibble, this diet promotes stool formation, so it goes about 2-4 times a day.

However, some kittens may become constipated due to unbalanced or irregular feeding and then go every 2-4 days. If a kitten does not defecate for a long time, take it to a veterinary clinic for examination and treatment.
