Border Collie training methods and commands

Border Collies are smart and understand well, so start training early. Begin with simple commands, sit, stand, go, stop, shake, paired with short cues.

For ‘sit’, call the dog, say ‘sit’, and gently tap the rear to guide it down, then reward with a treat or praise. For ‘shake’, demonstrate if it does not lift its paw, and reward on completion.
