When do kittens wean?

Expert Answer

Generally, a kitten can be weaned at about four weeks. If the kitten is weak, it is better to keep it on mother’s milk for a while longer.

During weaning, feed the kitten liquid food. At this stage its digestion and gut function are fragile, so do not feed dry kibble directly; soften kibble with warm water or goat milk before feeding.

Use a cat-specific goat-milk formula for mixing; do not use regular milk powder.
