Can dog conjunctivitis heal on its own?

Dog conjunctivitis generally will not heal on its own. It is usually caused by bacteria, viruses, or parasites, and eye conditions progress quickly, so self-healing is unlikely.

First put an Elizabethan collar on the dog to stop it scratching the eye and worsening infection, then rinse with saline to clear discharge, and apply dog-specific antibacterial eye drops, anti-inflammatory ointment, and oral medicine. If severe, see a vet promptly to avoid blindness.
