An arowana refusing food may simply be sensitive to a recent change of environment; it usually improves gradually after two or three days of adaptation. Second, poor water quality can also cause refusal; if the arowana often bites food and spits it out, or lies at the bottom of the tank, you need to improve water quality promptly.
In addition, water that is too hot or too cold will cause refusal, because arowanas prefer a temperature of 24 to 28°C. Temperatures too high or low, or sudden changes in temperature and water quality, will affect their appetite, so keep the environment stable to avoid stress.
Finally, an arowana infected with intestinal disease will also stop eating. Fast it for two to three days, then treat with penicillin or arowana-specific gut medication.
