When do dogs get their period?

A dog gets her period when she is in heat. Generally a female dog has her first heat at 6-8 months of age, but because dogs differ in constitution, a few will not have it until about 1-2 years old. After a dog starts her period, her immunity drops somewhat, so the owner should keep her warm to avoid chills and colds.

Also, put dog diapers on her to keep her discharge from soiling household items or breeding bacteria that cause inflammation. Finally, when a female dog is in heat, watch her carefully outdoors to avoid accidental pregnancy from being mounted by other male dogs.
